Tip #1: Invest in the Right Gear
Unless you’re shadowboxing, you'll need some essential boxing equipment before you start boxing, like a pair of quality boxing gloves and hand wraps. The rest of your equipment needs depends on the type of workout you’re looking for. And lucky for you, you don't need much for a Litesport workout! To enter the virtual boxing ring you’ll need a Meta Quest VR Headset.
Tip #2: Learn Proper Boxing Technique
As with any sport or activity, it's important to learn proper form and technique when boxing with Litesport. This will help you be more efficient in your punches and move quicker, as well as reduce your risk of injury. In our classes, our Litesport Trainers will show you proper techniques for punching, footwork, defense, and even breathing. But here are some of the basics (plus more in-depth guides to help):
- Start with your boxer’s stance: If you’re right-handed (or an Orthodox boxer) put your left foot forward and your right foot back. It’s the opposite for left-handed or Southpaw boxers. Next, bring your hands up to your chin to protect your face, tuck your chin slightly down, and keep your shoulders soft. And stay light on your feet! Learn more about proper boxing form.

Tip #3: Focus On Your Footwork
Footwork is a crucial skill in boxing. It allows you to move quickly around your opponent and set up for an effective punch. That’s why it’s important as a beginner boxer to dedicate some time to learning basic footwork drills so that you can become more agile in the ring.
Start by keeping light on your feet while practicing shuffles (side-to-side movements) and circles (forward & backward steps). This will allow you to improve both offensive & defensive movement in the ring.
Once comfortable with these basic techniques, try adding more complex footwork drills such as bobbing & weaving or weaving & pivoting into your training routine so that you can be ready for anything inside the ring. It may feel awkward at first but with enough practice, it will soon feel like second nature.

Tip #4: Build Up Your Endurance
Boxing involves quick and explosive movements — which is why it’s easy to feel exhausted after only a few rounds of boxing combinations. As a beginner boxer, one of the best ways to build your boxing skillset is to add strength and conditioning to your workout routine.
